Energy rich southern Campbell County has kept the nation heated with the lights on for more than 30 years.
Through the 1970s and 80s this was a top oil producing area.
In the 1960s there was major uranium exploration.
In the 1980s, 90s into 2008 it produces the largest volume of low sulphur coal in the United States.
By 2009 pipelines carry coal bed methane gas to distribution points.
Mine Tours
Museum staff will arrange a tour of a coal mine tour for you during the summer months. You will view a wall of coal, as well as massive shovels, draglines and haul trucks as they move thousands of tons of coal into railroad cars for distribution to all points of the compass.
