History

The town of Wright received its name from the Wright Post Office located in the ranch house of Richard A. "Dick" Wright in 1906.  The post office was moved to two other ranch sites before it was closed in 1942.  Mail was carried by horseback to 13 rural post offices in the county south of the Belle Fourche River.

A new post office was established for the young town in 1975.
